- [The India-Pakistan Pulwama-Balakot Crisis Six Years On](https://basicint.org/the-india-pakistan-pulwama-balakot-crisis-six-years-on/): Six years ago this month, India and Pakistan were emerging out of a deep crisis that reached its most dangerous point on 27 February 2019 when Pakistan shot down and captured an Indian pilot in a firefight across the line of control in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan’s retaliatory air attack against military targets (Krishna Ghati, Hamirpur, Gambhir, and the Narayan ammunition dump) in Indian administered Kashmir was in response to India’s limited air strike on 26 February against an alleged militant training camp at Balakot. This strike, in turn, was in response to what the Indian Government perceived as Pakistan’s orchestration twelve days earlier of a terrorist attack against Indian security forces at Pulwama inside Indian-administered Kashmir.

- [Eleni Ekmektsioglou](https://basicint.org/our-staff/eleni-ekmektsioglou/): Before joining BASIC, Eleni was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Technology and International Security with UC-IGCC and the U.S. National Labs for Nuclear Weapons (LANL and LLNL). Her PhD examined the reasons behind the variation in military organisations’ reactions to emerging technologies, including cases such as adaptation, rejection, and/or countering. Her research sheds light on the determinants behind military organisations’ assessments and evaluations of emerging technologies, examining a variety of historical and contemporary case studies, such as the submarine and the aircraft carrier before WWII, hypersonic weapons, and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD).
- [James Brady](https://basicint.org/our-staff/james-brady/): Prior to joining BASIC, James worked at the Centre for Science and Security Studies at King’s College London, where he focused on proliferation financing. He developed open-source research methods for identifying proliferation-relevant trade from publicly-available information. James has delivered training on the Financial Action Task Force’s standards on proliferation financing with the public and private sector internationally. This includes working with representatives from central banks, financial intelligence units and private multinational financial institutions, primarily in South-East Asia but also with states in the Middle East and the Pacific Islands region. He has also previously worked as an investigator with a boutique corporate intelligence firm in London.
