- [Public Procurement in 2026: Four Priorities Redefining Performance](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/public-procurement-in-2026): Public sector procurement is entering one of its most transformative periods in decades. Rising citizen expectations, tighter regulations, geopolitical uncertainty, and rapid advancements in AI are reshaping how organizations think about technology.  In 2026, procurement will no longer be about digitizing forms or automating routine tasks. It’s about building intelligent, resilient, and transparent systems that help the public sector deliver more value with fewer resources, while staying compliant, sustainable, and future-ready.  Here are the four critical priorities public sector leaders should expect in 2026:
- [From Cost to Catalyst: The Evolution of Higher Ed Procurement](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/from-cost-to-catalyst-the-evolution-of-higher-ed-procurement): Higher education is in flux. Tightening budgets, talent shortages, and growing expectations for transparency and sustainability are forcing institutions to deliver more with less. Procurement leaders are now at the center of this shift, balancing fiscal responsibility with mission-driven goals in research, inclusion, and innovation. While funding cuts, compliance changes, and fragmented operations continue to challenge the sector, they also present an opportunity to redefine procurement’s role as a strategic driver of resilience and efficiency. In the year ahead, institutions that embrace digital transformation, automation, and stronger supplier collaboration will be best positioned to thrive amid uncertainty.
- [Brandon Nussey Takes Chief Financial Officer Role at JAGGAER](https://www.jaggaer.com/press-release/brandon-nussey-chief-financial-officer): RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, December 17, 2025 - JAGGAER, a global leader in source-to-pay and supplier collaboration, today announces the appointment of Brandon Nussey to Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Nussey will join the Executive Leadership Team contributing to JAGGAER’s vision to drive the convergence of procurement and supply chain management.
- [JAGGAER Selects Watershed to Strengthen Its Climate Accountability](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/jaggaer-watershed-climate-accountability): Sustainability is a defining element of business performance and resilience. Across industries, organizations are taking action to understand and manage their environmental impact. At JAGGAER, that commitment is embedded in how we operate—integrating sustainability into our own practices and supporting customers to do the same.
- [Landed Cost Calculations are Missing Something Critical: Carbon](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/cost-calculations-are-missing-carbon): For decades, procurement teams have calculated landed costs using four dimensions: purchase price, tariffs, insurance, and shipping. This framework has served the industry well, helping teams compare suppliers across borders and make informed sourcing decisions.
- [JAGGAER 25.3 Accelerates Sourcing Cycles, Strengthens Supplier Risk Controls, and Streamlines Intake](https://www.jaggaer.com/press-release/jaggaer-25-3-release): RALEIGH, NC, November 20, 2025 - JAGGAER today announced the launch of its 25.3 product release, delivering measurable improvements in sourcing productivity, supplier risk management, and user experience, specifically developed with the needs manufacturing, public sector, and higher education organizations in mind.
- [Carbon pricing isn’t a future problem for procurement – the costs are already here](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/carbon-pricing-not-future-problem-costs-already-here): With 80-90% of total corporate emissions coming from the supply chain, procurement must play a leading role in the drive to decarbonization. Leadership often gives them ambitious sustainability targets.
- [UAE Moves Closer to a Paperless Future: eInvoicing to Become Mandatory by July 2026](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/uae-einvoicing-mandatory-july-2026): The UAE government’s vision of a fully paperless economy is taking another decisive step forward. Starting July 2026, electronic invoicing (eInvoicing) will become mandatory for all B2B and business-to-government (B2G) transactions — marking a major milestone in the country’s journey toward sustainability, transparency, and efficiency.
- [Cutting Emissions, Cutting Costs: Moving Decarbonization to the Next Level in the Lighting Industry](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/decarbonization-in-the-lighting-industry): Lighting accounts for about 12% of global electricity consumption. JAGGAER customer Signify, best known for the Philips brand, argues that lighting is “part of the problem” but therefore also “part of the solution” for decarbonization. Lighting’s share of electricity use has been declining for a decade thanks to LEDs and better controls, and the downward trend should continue with further efficacy gains and saturation of LED sales. Source efficiencies have improved by an order of magnitude (from around 10–15 lumens per Watt (lm/W) for incandescents to >150–200 lm/W for modern LEDs), which translates to 80–90% less electricity per lumen at the source (system-level savings vary). As a result, total electricity (TWh) for lighting has likely plateaued or fallen in many regions even while service demand (lumens delivered) keeps rising.
- [The Snowball Effect: Why Small Procurement Leaks Become Big Business Risks](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/snowball-effect-small-procurement-leaks-big-business-risks): Ambition across the MEA region is unprecedented, record-breaking towers, futuristic digital services, massive aviation orders, and world-class infrastructure projects. But with ambition comes a quieter challenge: cost overruns.
- [Simplifying Indirect Procurement in Europe: How JAGGAER and Unite Are Making Buying Smarter](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/simplifying-indirect-procurement-in-europe-jaggaer-and-unite): Procurement complexity across Europe is growing fast. From managing hundreds of suppliers and purchase channels to ensuring compliance with local regulations and ESG standards, buyers are under pressure to do more with less, and do it smarter.
- [JAGGAER and Unite Deepen Partnership to Simplify Procurement Across Europe](https://www.jaggaer.com/press-release/jaggaer-and-unite-partnership-simplify-procurement-across-europe): RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, November 20, 2025 - JAGGAER, the global leader in enterprise procurement and supplier collaboration, is strengthening its partnership with Unite, Europe’s largest B2B marketplace for catalogue-based procurement. This collaboration brings Unite’s extensive supplier ecosystem and Single Creditor model directly into the JAGGAER ONE eProcurement platform, benefiting customers across the DACH region, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and beyond.
- [Agentic AI in Procurement, Part 4: Building Security Right into Your Automated Business Processes](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/agentic-ai-in-procurement-part-4-building-security-right-into-your-automated-business-processes): When I talk to customers about the next phases of AI, I usually hear some variations of the following questions: "What are you going to do with my data?" "Are you mixing my data with someone else's data?" "How do we track output?" "How do we make sure customers are getting good answers?"
- [JAGGAER Leads the Charge in Revolutionizing Procurement with Human-Centered AI](https://www.jaggaer.com/press-release/jaggaer-leads-the-charge-in-revolutionizing-procurement-with-human-centered-ai): SYDNEY, Australia, 14 November, 2025: JAGGAER, a global leader in strategic sourcing and procurement, recently hosted its Executive CPO Roundtable in Sydney, bringing together the procurement leaders from key customers to discuss the challenges facing today’s procurement teams and how organisations are leveraging the latest innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) to address them.
- [Strategic Spend Management: The Complete Guide to Smarter Procurement ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/strategic-spend-management-complete-guide): Spend management has moved from a reactive cost-cutting exercise to a strategic discipline that shapes how organizations buy, manage suppliers, and protect margins. In an environment defined by inflation, supply chain disruption, and rising stakeholder expectations, bringing spend under control is no longer optional – it’s a core lever for resilience and growth.
- [Spend Management in the Supply Chain vs Expense Management ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/spend-management-vs-expense-management-supply-chain): The fact is, however, that expense management is one of those grey areas where finance, HR, and procurement overlap. It is treated differently in different sectors and between organizations within specific sectors. Many of them confuse spend management with expense management. As we shall see, this tends to be the case in sectors with the following characteristics: first, indirect spend dominates; second, client-facing activities blur the line between business and personal expenditure; and third, procurement is not seen as a strategic discipline, leaving corporate finance or individual business units to manage discretionary costs. But in all cases, it is vitally important to make the distinction because spend management in the supply chain is critical to business success as an enabler of supply chain agility, efficiency, spend visibility and cost control.
- [AI & Automation in Spend Management: Reducing Unmanaged Spend with Data ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/ai-spend-management-reducing-unmanaged-spend): Both push and pull factors have driven the rapid rise of artificial intelligence in spend management in recent years. The push factors are external or internal forces compelling organizations to adopt AI in spend management. They include economic volatility and cost pressures, with CFOs and CPOs under pressure to safeguard margins amid inflation, tariffs, and supply chain shocks; geopolitical and supply chain risk, with global disruptions such as trade wars, conflicts and sanctions exposing overdependence on single suppliers; regulatory and ESG compliance; talent shortages; manual inefficiencies; and fragmented systems with a lack of visibility. For all these reasons organizations, which have to deal with vastly expanding volumes of data, are being pushed to use artificial intelligence to deliver a single and reliable version of the truth to provide a basis for effective spend management.

According to a new report from Gartner, 50% of supply chain solutions will use intelligent agents by 2030. How we get there and unlock the business value of the technology depends on what we’re doing now and what our goals are.
- [The Economic Benefits of Decarbonization: The Big Picture](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/economic-benefits-of-decarbonization): There are also mounting financial benefits of decarbonization. Sustainability-linked loans, which now account for a significant portion of the EMEA loan market, offer interest rate discounts for meeting environmental targets. Additionally, reducing carbon emissions can lead to lower capital costs, as companies with strong ESG performance often enjoy better financing terms.
- [Sustainability, ESG and CSR: The Complete Guide](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/sustainability-esg-csr-in-procurement-guide): Sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are reshaping how procurement teams create value, mitigate risk, and drive competitive advantage. Once treated as peripheral to cost and efficiency, these frameworks now define how organizations select suppliers, manage spend, and ensure long-term supply chain resilience.

- [Your ESG Strategy & Journey: Consulting, Analytics & Software ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/esg-strategy-consulting-analytics-software): While some organizations are big enough to have their own dedicated sustainability teams, this is rare. The vast majority will need to invest in external consulting services to develop an ESG strategy. ESG must become a core part of their business strategy, not a separate add-on. Successfully transforming into a sustainable company requires a comprehensive, company-wide approach, rather than isolated efforts, according to both PwC and KPMG, which are leaders in ESG consulting.
- [The Three Pillars of Sustainability ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/the-three-pillars-of-sustainability-explained): One framework that facilitates this broad view is the “three pillars of sustainability.”

- [ESG Risk: What It Is, and How to Manage It](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/esg-risk-what-it-is-and-how-to-manage-it): “ESG risk” refers to the potential financial loss or reputational harm caused by a company’s impact on the environment, the fabric of society, and the stewardship of corporate assets. Specific risks include issues like pollution, poor labor practices, and weak board oversight, all of which can undermine a company’s long-term sustainability and stakeholder confidence. These risks can arise from the company’s own operations, but they can also occur in its supply chain or as a result of external factors beyond its control such as extreme weather. Consequently, measuring ESG is extremely challenging. ESG risk is of particular concern for procurement and supply chain leaders precisely because of so much risk arises in the extended supply chain and disruptions to it. Let’s consider some examples under the three headings:
- [Why ESG Metrics, KPIs and Materiality Assessments Matter ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/why-esg-metrics-kpis-materiality-matter): Far from being a box-ticking exercise, there’s credible evidence that firms which do an excellent job of designing and managing financially-material ESG metrics and KPIs tend to outperform their competitors and carry a lower cost of capital thanks to reduced risk. The strongest results come when metrics are sector-materiality assessed (typically when following SASB/ISSB recommendations). In this article we consider how to treat ESG metrics as a driver of value, as opposed to a generic checklist.
- [ESG and Sustainability in the Energy Sector: A Practical Guide ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/esg-sustainability-energy-sector): Explore ESG and sustainability by industry, with a focus on standards, reporting, current trends, and best practices in the oil & gas, utilities and renewable energy sectors.

- [Consumerizing Enterprise Payments: The Path to Seamless, Intelligent Transactions](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/consumerizing-enterprise-payments-the-path-to-seamless-intelligent-transactions): In today’s digital-first world, the tools we use in our personal lives—like Venmo, Uber, and Amazon—have reshaped expectations for how digital transactions should work—fast, intuitive, and frictionless. Meanwhile, enterprise payment systems have historically lagged, often requiring cumbersome workflows, manual approvals, and lengthy processing times. As stakeholders grow accustomed to seamless, AI-driven consumer experiences, businesses must modernize their enterprise payment systems to keep pace.
- [Agentic AI in Procurement, Part 1: Why It Is a Necessity  ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/agentic-ai-in-procurement-part-1-necessity): In a new study, McKinsey calls the gap between AI investment and ROI the “GenAI paradox.” The paradox, McKinsey explains, is that like any previous technology, the excitement about artificial intelligence has not yet caught up with reality. Sure, there are pilot programs and people using GenAI for various tasks, but until there are strategic, function-specific use cases, AI will fail to deliver true business gains.

Procure-to-pay solutions create approval flows that ensure the savings negotiated during the upstream S2C part of the procurement process are delivered to the company’s bottom line. This guide brings together the most important concepts, comparisons, use cases, and benefits of GenAI—offering a comprehensive foundation for anyone looking to understand or implement this groundbreaking technology.
- [GenAI vs Predictive AI: Understanding the Key Differences ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/genai-vs-predictive-ai): Predictive analytics, often referred to as predictive AI, remains a foundational and mature component within the artificial intelligence landscape. According to Gartner’s 2024 Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence, predictive analytics is considered a traditional AI capability that is increasingly being integrated into enterprise application suites such as ERP, CRM, digital workplace, supply chain, and knowledge management systems. These integrations aim to derive more insights from data within such applications.
- [How GenAI is Transforming Manufacturing for Greater Efficiency](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/genai-in-manufacturing): “Manufacturing pessimism has spiked dramatically in April as industrial producers deal with changing tariff plans and try to assess how global trade policy will impact their costs and operations in the coming months.” So wrote Industry Week recently, citing several influential surveys and commentators. Business confidence has seen huge swings with fewer businesses expressing an intention to increase capital spending than at any time since the financial crisis of 2009 — with the brief exception of the peak inflation of 2023. The uncertainty of what tariffs will or will not be put in place, and when, is the main source of pessimism in the USA, and this is having a knock-on effect elsewhere.

- [GenAI in Procurement: Enhancing Security & Mitigating Risks ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/genai-in-procurement-enhancing-security-mitigating-risks): In earlier articles in this series on GenAI we have discussed its benefits and how it differs from other forms of artificial intelligence, as well as how in future these will converge to create highly sophisticated solutions, not least in procurement. We also pointed out some of the disadvantages of GenAI. Not the least of these are the cybersecurity risks.
- [GenAI Technology: What Distinguishes It from Other Forms of Artificial Intelligence? ](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/genai-technology-vs-other-ai-approaches): Generative AI can be distinguished from other forms of AI by its capabilities and machine learning techniques, but for the moment we’ll focus on functionality and application. Generative AI (GenAI) refers to artificial intelligence that creates new content (text, images, music, code, etc.) based on self-supervised learned patterns. Examples include ChatGPT, DALL·E, MidJourney, Claude, and Gemini. GenAI is revolutionizing the creative industries, but it also assists in those aspects of procurement that involve the creation of new content, or the revision of existing content, such as RFQs and contracts.
- [Top Benefits of Generative AI (GenAI) for Businesses](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/benefits-of-generative-ai): In our previous article we defined generative AI (GenAI) as a form of artificial intelligence that not only analyzes existing data but also generates new content. GenAI thus takes on capabilities that, until very recently, were assumed to be unique to human beings. But as we explained, it cannot entirely replace human beings for a number of reasons.

- [Get Transparency in the Supply Chain to Comply with Sustainability Regulations – Part 2: Here’s How!](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/transparency-in-the-supply-chain-sustainability-regulations-part-2): As will be clear from the previous article by Robin Schenkewitz of H&Z, the new CSRD, EUDR and CSDDD directives impose significant demands on procurement to collect data about what’s happening in their supply chain. Manual and ad hoc means are no longer up to the task. - [Choosing the Right ERP System for Manufacturing: Key Features to Consider](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/erp-system-for-manufacturing): Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a cornerstone of modern manufacturing, bringing together core business functions to improve operational efficiency. While many manufacturers rely on ERP systems for procurement, these platforms are designed for broad business management rather than the intricate demands of sourcing, supplier collaboration, and cost control in a manufacturing environment. Pairing a dedicated Source-to-Pay (S2P) solution with ERP strengthens procurement by enhancing visibility into supplier performance, automating workflows, and enabling smarter decision-making. This combination ensures that raw materials and components arrive precisely when needed, keeping production schedules on track and costs under control. By integrating S2P with ERP, manufacturers gain a seamless connection between procurement, supply chain management, and production planning—boosting efficiency without disrupting existing ERP functions.

In the following year recommendations for its implementation were presented to the German government. Klaus Schwab, executive chairman of the World Economic forum introduced the phrase to a global audience in 2016 when “Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution” was adopted as the theme for the WEF annual meeting at Davos.

- [Linking Cost Savings to Climate Action](https://www.jaggaer.com/blog/linking-cost-savings-to-climate-action): Cost savings and climate action. Two themes that at first glance don’t sit very well together. And the challenge for us all as a global community is huge. Despite all the investment in renewables, more than 80 percent of energy consumption is attributable to fossil fuels. And it is those of us in the richer countries (i.e., highest per capita income) that are responsible for the highest carbon emissions per capita: In the USA 13.8 metric tons per person and in the European Union 5.66 metric tons per person. By comparison, in India the figure is just 2.5 metric tons. In 2019, the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) accounted for just 1.1% of total global CO₂ emissions from fossil fuel combustion and industrial processes. On a per capita basis, emissions in LDCs were approximately 9% of the global average. Despite our efforts as individuals to consume “responsibly” in the richer countries—and per capita emissions have fallen in recent years—it is prosperity and economic growth that drive adverse climate change.

Unlike traditional procurement methods, which often rely on rigid processes and long timelines, agile procurement enables organizations to respond quickly to changing market conditions, customer needs, and project requirements. In agile procurement, teams work in short, frequent cycles known as sprints to prioritize and acquire the most essential goods or services. This allows businesses to innovate and adjust their procurement strategies in real-time, ensuring faster delivery and reducing procurement costs. Agile procurement focuses on improving collaboration between procurement teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to achieve better outcomes.Agile Supply ChainAn Agile Supply Chain is a flexible, responsive, and adaptive supply chain model designed to quickly adjust to changes in market conditions, customer demands, and external disruptions. Unlike traditional supply chains, which may be rigid and slow to adapt, an agile supply chain focuses on speed, flexibility, and collaboration to ensure that goods and services are delivered efficiently, even in the face of uncertainty. In an agile supply chain, organizations are able to rapidly respond to fluctuating demand, supply interruptions, and evolving customer needs. Effective Business Spend Management enables companies to align spending with their strategic objectives and achieve long-term financial sustainability.Buyers MarketA Buyers' Market in Procurement refers to a market condition where supply exceeds demand, giving buyers more power to negotiate favorable terms, such as lower prices, better quality, and improved service levels. In a buyers' market, suppliers compete for business, which creates opportunities for procurement teams to secure more cost-effective deals and favorable contracts. In procurement, a buyers' market often occurs during times of economic downturns, overproduction, or when new suppliers enter the market, leading to an abundance of available goods or services. This dynamic shifts the balance of power from the supplier to the buyer, making it easier to secure favorable pricing, flexible payment terms, and other advantageous conditions.CCategory AnalysisCategory Analysis in procurement refers to the process of evaluating and understanding the market dynamics, trends, and opportunities within a specific category of goods or services. It involves analyzing factors such as supplier performance, pricing trends, demand fluctuations, and potential risks to help organizations make more informed, strategic sourcing decisions. In this model, the centralized procurement team is responsible for sourcing goods and services for all departments, divisions, or branches of the organization. Centralized procurement streamlines processes, consolidates purchasing power, and ensures that procurement decisions align with the organization’s overall objectives. By centralizing procurement, organizations can leverage bulk purchasing to negotiate better pricing, improve supplier relationships, and standardize processes across various business units. This approach helps organizations achieve greater cost savings, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent quality standards in the procurement of goods and services.Compliance Risk ManagementCompliance Risk Management in Procurement involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with non-compliance to laws, regulations, standards, and internal policies in the procurement process. It ensures that procurement activities align with legal and regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and industry standards. Effective compliance risk management helps procurement teams avoid legal penalties, reputational damage, and financial losses while maintaining transparency and accountability.
